Layered

Stockholm-based Layered builds on a distinctly Swedish design tradition: the bold flatweaves and shaggy rya rugs that defined Scandinavian interiors for generations. Founder Malin Glemme, who came from a background in fashion and product development, started the brand almost by accident. Unable to find a sustainable, design-forward rug for her own home in 2015, she designed one herself and had it hand-knotted by a weaver in Bhadohi, India. The rug appeared in a Swedish interior magazine, orders started coming in, and Layered was born.

Every rug is still handwoven by artisan weavers in Bhadohi, India, and Samarina, Greece, from natural or recycled materials, and designed to be lived on for decades. Layered treats a rug the way Glemme once treated a garment, as the piece that anchors a room rather than fades into the background, and that point of view has led to collaborations with artists and designers like Bella Rune and Evelina Kroon along the way.
